What are your services?

I offer proofreading services in line with the Editors Canada definition of the role. This typically includes correcting:

• Technical errors (e.g., spelling, punctuation, objective word choice)

• Internal textual inconsistencies (e.g., adherence to style guide, character name spellings, title capitalization)

• Element inaccuracies or inconsistencies (e.g., cross references, tables of contents, hyperlinks)

Proofreading starts at $0.01 per word, but please contact me for a personalized quote.

Proofreading should be the last stage of editing a piece. Not there yet? I also offer copy editing, where I will provide the proofreading services listed above, as well as:

• Correct or flag ambiguous or confusing language or phrasing

• Note major plot holes or timeline inconsistencies

• Perform light fact-checking (e.g., ensure accurate spelling of names and locations, check for major anachronisms, etc.)

Copy editing starts at $0.02 per word, but please contact me for a personalized quote.

What types of work do you proofread?

I'm open to almost anything! I've worked on blogs, business reports and proposals, academic writing, direct mail campaigns, and general web content. I am comfortable with British and American English, and I'm happy to work with whatever house style you're using. 

What are your rates?

My base rate is $0.01 per word for proofreading and $0.02 per word for copy proofing, but these fluctuate based on material and client needs. Please contact me for a personal quote. Lower rates are available for not-for-profit organizations. Time-based pricing (an hourly rate, billed per 15-minute increment) is also available upon request. 

My minimum fee for any project is $50.00. All my pricing is in Canadian funds. 

How do I pay you?

I currently accept cheques or electronic money transfers.

What is your turnaround time like?

I am flexible and generally accommodating! My delivery timeline depends on your needs. Please contact me to discuss your project and deadlines.

What special qualities can I expect from your service?

I am known for prompt, professional, and friendly service; close attention to detail; full discretion; and appreciation and preservation of personal or house style and tone. I can provide ongoing communication with you throughout the project if you'd like, or I can leave you alone to work on other things until I'm done my part –  it's up to you! If requested, I am also happy to book a follow-up call or virtual meeting upon completion at no extra charge to answer any questions or go over my suggestions. 

Will you provide a sample edit?

Of course! Clients may request a sample edit from my portfolio to determine accuracy, style, and ability to maintain consistent tone. Depending on your project, I may also be able to provide a complimentary sample proof of up to 20% of your total project.
